A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life
About therapy with Laura
Hi, I’m Laura, a psychodynamic psychotherapist which means I look at how the past affects the present. Together we examine deeper the messages you have attained throughout your life, which of them serve you today and which you no longer require. Your childhood is a part of the work and yet it is not the whole picture. The process is more of empowerment and making sense of than blame.
"Every time you don't follow your inner guidance, you feel a loss of energy, loss of power, a sense of spiritual deadness", Shakti Gawain.
I believe that to truly enjoy life we have to set ourselves free, from messages received in our pasts that no longer serve us. The first steps of change are awareness, which can sometimes look like a break-down, burnout, stress, fatigue, a message from the body to say change is required or a spiritual awakening that something is wrong, you are not on the right path perhaps.
If you are struggling with an eating disorder, addiction, depression or anxiety, intrusive thoughts, low self-esteem, difficulty in relationships, self-harm, OCD, personality disorder or a sense that something isn’t quite right then I will work with you in a collaborative style, guiding you through difficult times, towards feeling alive and rested.
Most of our work together will involve talking therapy however some clients find it helpful to work creatively with song, drawings, bodywork, visualisation, meditation, sand-trays and dreams. I want to encourage you to feel empowered to work in the best way to allow your mind, body and soul to heal.
Sometimes life can feel stressful, difficult and even overwhelming, you may feel stuck and unable to move forward. It may become apparent you need to seek professional support in the way of counselling or psychotherapy to make sense of what is happening and how to find a way out.
I offer a confidential, non-judgemental space for you to explore what is worrying you and how to overcome it. I trained at The University of Greenwich in a psychodynamic modality. I am a member of the BACP and previously worked at The Priory on their eating disorder program. I often work long term building a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship to get to the root cause of your issue. I currently work at The Surrey Centre and in private practice.
Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can meet weekly and face to face with Laura, who will listen with sensitivity and empathy – and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.
The problem with mental health crisis is that it thrives in secrecy and shame. Many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Psychotherapy provides a set of tools which can be used to gain a better understanding of what’s causing your problems and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.
Working together Laura can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, healthier choices moving forward.
People come to Laura for help with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling and psychotherapy.
Feelings of stress or anxiety
Grief, loss or bereavement
Problems with addiction
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
Problems with confidence or self-esteem
Issues relating to sexuality
Difficulties at work or in retirement
Problems with family or school life

Our first session together is called an assessment and aims to understand further what has led you to seek therapeutic treatment. Assessments last 55 minutes and should help you decide whether you want to pursue therapy further and if I am the right therapist for you. If at this stage you choose to continue I will give you a contract to take home to consider and we will set up regular weekly slots together.
I can work with clients once or twice a week.
If you feel you wish to end therapy it is helpful to give 3-4 weeks notice so we can work through an ending, finding meaning in the work we have done together.
I work face to face in Headley, Surrey. I am also able to work online or by telephone if preferred.
